Journalists Should Not Hide Facts from Readers | National Review

The Media was whipping up the “Mass Shooting” frenzy on Monday – Austin, TX, Cleveland, OH, Savannah, GA, and – of course, Chicago – all had “Mass Shootings” over the weekend.

Savannah? The “Affordable Housing Complex” involved had been targeted in a drive-by shooting Tuesday, and then 20-year-old Arthur Milton was killed Friday night in what police called “the result of a conflict between two groups.” Is that gang related, Officer? Mr. Mayor? “No comment.” Sixty shell casings were recovered, 3 apartments and 6 vehicles were hit, along with about half a dozen people, including an infant. Milton was the only fatality.

Cleveland? The “Mass Shooting” took place in the Kinsman neighborhood, which is 97% Black: The shooting was at 2:30 in the morning. Gang/Drug related? No Comment. Any mention of the race of the victims or suspects? No.

Chicago? The "Mass Shooting" was in the Chatham neighborhood at 2AM – “Nothing good happens after midnight”, I can hear my father saying... But it was just a normal Chicago weekend: 44 shot, 6 killed, nothing to see here – move along… Chatham is also 97% Black.

So far, it appears to be three-for-three on the inner-city, gang-culture, Shoot-a-Rama Meter. Of course, you have to dig deep to find that information – the Media is doing its best to hide the demographics on these and just hype “Mass Shootings”. So: How about Austin, Texas?

Austin? Travis County is 4% Black, yet the local newspaper refused to publish the description of the suspect provided by the police through numerous eye witnesses: A skinny black youth with dreadlocks. Why? According to the paper itself:

Editor’s note: Police have only released a vague description of the suspected shooter as of Saturday morning. The American-Statesman is not including the description as it is too vague at this time to be useful in identifying the shooter and such publication could be harmful in perpetuating stereotypes. If more detailed information is released, we will update our reporting.

Question: is it racist to withhold describing the perp as a "Skinny, Black, 18-24 yr old Male with dreadlocks" fearing it will "perpetuates stereotypes" instead of maintaining journalistic integrity and “perpetuating actual journalism” by mentioning his race? And really: How stupid do you think we all are? A description from multiple witnesses including race, age, physical build, and a defining characteristic – dreadlocks – that eliminates about 99% of the Metro Austin population is not “vague”.

The shooting, in which an innocent bystander was the only fatality, was also the result of a “disagreement between two groups” according to the Police. One suspect was apprehended, despite the Newspaper’s unwillingness to help.

Mass Shootings involve hat tricks and up; but these weren't random shootings, these were all "disagreements" between hoodlums ending in gun violence and death. Sadly, an innocent bystander in Austin was caught up in it: Douglas John Kantor, a 25 year old White Male, was in the wrong place at the wrong time and paid with his life.
